Ronaldo Hits New Milestones, Even As Man United Stumble In Europe

It’s safe to say Ronaldo’s second spell at Man United is off to a good start. (Although we can’t say the same about the Red Devil’s European campaign)

He managed to score in United’s shock 2-1 defeat to Young Boys in their opening Champions League match Wednesday morning.

It may not have been the start United were looking for, but Ronaldo at least can take heart from getting on the scoresheet, in addition to hitting two new milestones.

The Portuguese star’s goal against Young Boys means he has now scored against 36 different clubs in the Champions League – equaling the record set by his long-time rival Lionel Messi.

It was also Ronaldo’s 177th appearance in the competition, bringing him level with Real Madrid legend (and former teammate) Iker Casillas.

All this after CR7 netted a brace against Newcastle over the weekend, in his first EPL match since returning to United.

With three goals in two matches, it would seem Ronaldo has lost none of the magic that makes him one of the best players in the world, even at the age of 36.

But it remains to be seen if United’s performance on the pitch can match the player’s desire for more trophies, especially in Europe.

Ronaldo alone is not the solution to United’s problems. If the Red Devils don’t improve soon, even the return of their favourite son will not be able to prevent another embarrassing European exit.
