Sugu Pavithra has been making waves in local media and has even gotten herself fans from abroad, through her simple yet addictive cooking videos. The latest Youtube sensation has captured the hearts of Malaysians, including our very Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin!
Pavithra shared her excitement in a recently uploaded YouTube video, as she unboxed a special package from the Prime Minister last Monday (11 May). The package included a tripod, a microwave oven, electric rice cooker and cooking products, all to help her with her cooking career on YouTube.
“We are just ordinary people, we never thought we’d receive presents from the Prime Minister. Thank you.” Pavithra said.
Along with the gifts, Pavithra also received a greeting card with a note saying: “With compliments from Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. Keep up the good work. Just stay at home.”

When contacted by Bernama, Pavithra said that she couldn’t believe what had happened to her.
“When the gifts were delivered to my house, I could not believe it because I felt like who am I to receive them (until) you called to ask whether I had received the presents or not.”
Pavithra said that she and her husband have used the tripod for video interviews, especially during live telecasts, but not for filming their cooking activities yet.
“I’m still comfortable using the mugs (to place her handphone on to record her cooking activities). Besides, the kitchen is quite small. But we definitely used the tripod for other purposes and it was really helpful. Thank you, Mr Prime Minister,” she said.
According to her, the gifts and her rising numbers of YouTube subscribers have certainly motivated her to continue and improve her cooking videos.
She said that after the video clip of their interview with Bernama was uploaded during Wesak Day (May 7), the number of ‘Sugu Pavithra’ subscribers has risen from 160,000 to 441,000.
Her YouTube subscribers now stand at 532,000 subscribers with the latest video of her showing the Prime Minister’s gifts along with her Unlunthu Vadai recipe receiving more than 700,000 views!
Pavithra also admitted that she had been ‘quite busy’ entertaining at least 20 calls daily from those wanting interviews or to deliver products to her home.
