According to the airline, the revised policy aligns with international aviation safety standards aimed at minimising the risk of battery-related incidents during flights.
Under the new guidelines, passengers must ensure that any power bank carried on board does not exceed 100 watt-hours (Wh). Devices rated between 100Wh and 160Wh will require prior approval at the check-in counter before boarding.
For safety reasons, passengers are required to observe the following rules while on board:
-
Power banks must be stored either in the seat pocket in front or under the seat.
-
Stowing power banks in overhead compartments is prohibited.
-
The use of power banks during the flight is not permitted.
-
Charging mobile devices using a power bank is strictly forbidden throughout the flight.
As previously advised, power banks are not allowed in checked baggage and must be brought into the cabin.
To support compliance, AirAsia will display safety notices at check-in counters and make announcements during boarding and throughout the flight.
