Its director, Haidar Khan said initial investigations found that the owner of the premises kept all the wildlife species without any valid documents from PERHILITAN.

“The value of the seizure is estimated to be more than RM100,000," he told Kosmo!

No arrest was made as the owner wasn’t present at the store during the seizure, and all the birds have been brought to PERHILITAN pending further action.

Among the species of birds seized include 60 Indian white-eyes, 11 king quails, four mynahs, three hanging parrots, two greater green leafbirds, one black-crowned night heron and one long-tailed parakeet.

The case is being investigated under the Wildlife Conservation Act 2010.

Just so you know, you are allowed to keep certain protected species as pets, but only if the shop is licensed by PERHILITAN.

Only selected protected species are allowed to be sold by such shops and you would have to produce the purchase receipt at the nearest PERHILITAN office in order to get a license to keep them.
