The SEA Games champion has fallen to 104th in the world rankings after failing to set a record at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, and he is now considering retirement.
The 34-year-old athlete from Kajang also said that he will be taking a break until the end of this season.
According to Astro AWANI, Hup Wei said that he will discuss with his wife and family regarding his future with the national squad.
The Sepang-born athlete will not be competing in the Malaysian Open which is expected to start on November 27th.
“I will not compete until the end of this year. My plans are for the Asian Games, the Commonwealth Games and the SEA Games next year,” he said.
Whatever your decision is, Hup Wei, please know that Malaysians are so proud of you! Thank you for representing Malaysia in the Olympics since 2008.
Come back better and stronger next year, Hup Wei!
