The 47-year-old woman and her 19-year-old daughter were on their home way when it started raining heavily.

Their vehicle then got caught in strong currents caused by overflowing water due to the rain from the Meru River nearby.

Panicked, both mother and daughter decided to leave their car before clinging to their car window as the currents got stronger.

Villagers who noticed what was happening alerted the Meru Raya Fire and Rescue Department.

Its chief, Sharudi Muhamad Halil said that a team of six firefighters rushed to the scene as soon as they got the emergency call at 6:04pm.

He said: “Upon arrival, the two victims were found clinging to the side of their car with the water level estimated to be at almost one meter deep.

“Two rescue ropes were tied to a tree trunk which acts as an anchor before a firefighter used a safety jacket to move through the currents to rescue the victims,” he added.

According to Sharudi, the two victims were asked to put on safety jackets as well before they were taken to a safer place.

He also said that the victims did not suffer any injuries, however, they were traumatised by the incident.

We’re glad that they’re okay! Thank you, Abang Bomba for saving them!
