Face Mask Will Be Mandatory In Melaka If COVID-19 Cases Keeps Rising

If there is a rise in Covid-19 cases, the state government of Melaka will reintroduce the mask requirement in crowded and closed areas as well as in public spaces.

The state health department will monitor the infections for the ensuing two weeks before making a decision, according to Dr. Akmal Saleh, chairman of the state health and anti-drug committee, as quoted in Sinar Harian.

“Melaka is aware of the rising number of cases,” he told Sinar Harian, "We won't think twice about reintroducing the mask mandate in open and enclosed areas.

Additionally, he advised people to get booster shots to stop the virus from spreading.

Two COVID-19 variants, BA.5.2 and BF.7, which account for about 80% of infection cases in China, were discovered there, according to Health director-general Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah's announcement on Monday (2 January).

According to DG Hisham, there were 4,148 cases involving the BA.5.2 variant as of 31 December and three cases involving the BF.7 variant.
