According to NST, the withdrawal from the Egyptian meet came as a big blow to the United States-based Sivasangari who recently climbed to a career best World No. 29 to overtake Low Wee Wern as the top ranked Malaysian player.
Famously known as Sangari, she shared on her Instagram on Sunday (September 5th) that she had to pull out from the Egyptian Open due to health issues.
“I am frustrated and upset because I was very much looking forward to this tournament.
“But some tough decision had to be made. I’m now looking to recover and get back to the grind for the next tournament,” she said.
Director of the Squash Racquets Association of Malaysia, Major S. Maniam told NST, “She returned with a positive test on August 28th, and we’ve been keeping in touch with her.
“I’m happy to hear that she is already recovering although it’s too soon for her to compete in the Egyptian meet. Now the focus for her is to fully recover and prepare for the US Open from October 1st-8th,” he added.
In Sangari’s absence, men’s national No. 1 Ng Eain Yow is likely to be the only Malaysian representative at the Egyptian Open.
It’s okay, there’s always next time! Take care, Sangari and get well soon!
