Starting today (3 October), Malaysia will experience a transitional phase of the monsoon until November.
According to BERNAMA, Malaysian Meteorogical Department (MetMalaysia)’s director-general, Muhammad Helmi Abdullah stated that the beginning of the phase will signal the end of the South-West Monsoon, which started on 14 May.

“The region will see weak winds from a variety of directions during the monsoon transition phase, which is particularly favorable for thunderstorms and causes brief episodes of heavy rain and powerful winds.”
He also stated that “this generally happens in the evenings and early sections of the night, in most locations of the west coast states, including west Sabah and central Sarawak.”
Helmi also mentioned that such weather conditions had the potential to cause flash floods as well as damage to unsound structures.
He advised the public to remain alert during the period and follow the weather forecasts and warnings issued by MetMalaysia through the department’s official website or social media or through the myCuaca mobile app.
