Malaysia Recorded 62 New COVID-19 Cases, Highest Daily Tally Since June

malaysia recorded 62 new covid-19 cases, highest daily tally since june

We know what you’re thinking... 62 new COVID-19 cases recorded yesterday (August 7th)?!

The last time Malaysia recorded more than 50 cases in a single day was on June 4th, when 277 new cases were reported that day.

The Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) was later implemented on June 10th.

But don’t be too alarmed. Here’s a breakdown of yesterday’s numbers…

Of the 62 news cases, 56 were local transmissions, with the remaining six imported cases.

It’s also understood that 50 of these cases are from the Benteng Lahad Datu cluster in Sabah, which first emerged on September 1st.

“Based on risk analysis, the factor behind COVID-19 transmission in this cluster is the cramped and crowded lockup facilities,” said Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

“It is found that physical distancing is hard to put into practice. This is the main contributor to the spread of COVID-19 amongst prisoners,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry (MOH) also announced the official end of four clusters — PUI Sivagangga, Muda, Meranti and Kurau.

As it stands, Malaysia has 207 active COVID-19 cases, with six in intensive care and four needing breathing assistance.

Stay safe, guys!
