Liverpool’s season appears to be going from bad to worse.
The reigning EPL champion’s title defence is in tatters, and they’re now in a battle just to finish in the top four.
The latest blow came in their 1-0 defeat to Chelsea at Anfield this morning (March 5th).
It was the first time in Liverpool’s history they’ve lost five games in a row on home soil.
It was also the first time a reigning English top-flight champion has lost five on the trot at home.
Remarkably, this new unwanted record comes just two months after the Reds were on a 68-game unbeaten run at home, which ended in their defeat to Burnley on January 21st.
To add to their misery, Liverpool have yet to win at home this calendar year and have now gone more than 10 hours without a goal in open play at Anfield.
With just 11 games to go this season, Jürgen Klopp’s side are currently seventh in the league standings.
Worryingly for the Reds, their slump comes at the same time that Chelsea (4th), Everton (5th) and West Ham (6th) seem to have rediscovered their form.
And with just four points separating the sides, it’s looking like we’ll be in for an intense battle for fourth.
