Give Blood, Get Rice! Kedah’s November Donation Drive Offers 5kg Bags to Donor

Community-driven initiatives to encourage blood donation are vital in supporting Malaysia's healthcare needs, and Kedah's recent campaign highlights the importance of unified efforts.

When people come together to donate blood, they strengthen the safety net for patients who rely on transfusions, especially in times of medical emergencies or shortages.

Blood donations not only save lives but also foster a sense of solidarity, as community members actively participate in supporting one another.

The Kedah Council of Justices of the Peace (Majlis Jaksa Pendamai Negeri Kedah), led by Deputy President Datuk Tan Hong Eng, has launched a month-long blood donation drive to boost the state's blood reserves. Running from 1 to 30 November, the campaign incentivizes donors with a unique offer: each donor receives a 5kg bag of rice as a token of appreciation. This gesture aims to attract a diverse pool of donors and create a culture of giving within the community.

With a goal to collect 3,000 bags of blood, the campaign, held in partnership with Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital (HSAH), addresses the pressing need for blood in Kedah and Perlis, where approximately 5,000 bags are required monthly. By holding donation drives in easily accessible locations like shopping malls, universities, and clinics, the organisers hope to make it convenient for individuals of all backgrounds to participate.

Key locations for the drives include HSAH's lobby on 7 and 18 November, Amanjaya Mall on 23 November, and Village Mall on 16, 24, 29, and 30 November, with additional sites at Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Kedah, and AIMST University.
