Rules and guidelines are a bit of a wet blanket, but also necessary to maintain order.
Beginning 1 January 2020, the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) will be implementing guidelines on homestays.
According to state Culture, Tourism, Malay Customs and Heritage chairman Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari, MBPJ is preparing the documents to investigate the registration of such business.

“The state, local authorities and Malaysian Institute of Planners are preparing the guidelines. The Housing and Local Govern-ment Ministry has proposed a ‘Short Term Accommodation Regulatory Framework’ draft for accommodation with the concept of ‘bed and breakfast’ or ‘short term rental’, Datuk Abdul said.
He added that local authorities or relevant parties will have authority and legal reference to control and regulate activities. In the same way, disturbances and traffic issues can be resolved, he said.
As of yet, there is still no mention of what the exact guidelines are. Just be alert and remember, don’t be notti-notti, okay?
