Hikers, Get Your Hiking Gear Ready!

Apart from the bustling city of KL, Malaysia has the best hiking trails in the world with the best sceneries available to explore, and one of them is the iconic Mount Kinabalu, located in Sabah.

If you’re a hardcore hiker, you’ll know that conquering Mount Kinabalu is no easy feat, but the experience hiking up the trail is a great experience with different fauna and flora along the way!

If you’re lucky, you might even get to see the world’s largest flower, the Rafflesia.

According to New Straits Times, Mount Kinabalu will soon be open to the public again after being closed for several weeks due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and we’re stoked!

Though the threat of the virus is still among us, Sabah Parks have decided to allow people to climb the mountain, but with the Health Ministry’s guidelines.

Only 100 climbers will be allowed into the park at a time, which is half of the usual number (which does not include porters and guides). The parks have vast, open space so it’s still possible to maintain social distancing.

Though the Sabah state government has announced that they will reopen all its recreational places on May 10, director Maklarin Lakim said that they would need a week to sort out the new SOPs for climbing activities - which means the park will officially be open this Saturday, 16 May instead!

How exciting!

However, the park will only be open to those who are already in Sabah, due to the travel restrictions into the state of Sabah still being in effect.

But don’t worry, the MCO will be over soon, and in the meantime, let’s do our part by staying at home, maintain social distancing, and wash our hands regularly!
