Ampang folks, did you know that the Highland Towers site is going to be cleared to make way for a recreational park? Well, now you know.
The two remaining blocks will be demolished and it will soon be a useful public area for all. Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Zuraidah Kamaruddin said that RM8.9mil has been allocated by the Finance Ministry (MOF) to acquire the 0.8-hectare area from the state government.

She added that the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council and Selangor Land and Mines Department will help with the matter. This is huge news as the land issues had been outstanding for the last 28 years, since the collapse of BLock 3! It’s remnants have been left behind and has since become a spot for crime and drug addicts.
With the current project underway, the place will at least be put to better use, and it will be a safer place for the residents nearby.
The Highland Towers block collapsed way back in 1993, killing 48 people. It was believed that the earth gave way after 10 days of rainfall causing the landslide.
That's really good news! We can’t wait to see how the park turns out!
