According to The Star, Touch ‘n Go, chief executive officer, Syahrunizam Samsudin said that the company has invested in one million RFID tags during the pilot programme for the first 18 months.

“Now it is time for us to move forward and continue to expand the use of RFID technology together with our partners across the mobility ecosystem. This includes fuelling, parking and retail drive-thrus,” he added.

Currently, the RFID tag fees are free, as part of the pilot programme to encourage sign-ups among Malaysians.

The RM35 purchase will come with a free first-time tag replacement on the same vehicle for when drivers need to get a new RFID tag for their car.

The RFID system is live for all Class 1 vehicles in 22 highways across Malaysia including the Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway (AKLEH), Penang Bridge (JPP) and Lebuhraya Damansara-Puchong (LDP).

Touch ‘n Go also announced that 40 users stand a chance to win an Ultimate RFID Toll Pass with RM2,500 each for its eWallet, in conjunction with the launch of the RM35 RFID tag from 15 Feb to 15 April.
