English media have gone into overdrive amid speculation Frank Lampard is on the verge of being sacked as Chelsea boss.
This, after the Blues fell to a 2-0 EPL defeat to Leicester this morning (January 20th).
It was Chelsea’s fifth defeat in eight matches and leaves them eighth in the standings.
They are also five points off the Champions League places.
It had earlier been expected that Lampard would be given time to get his team in order.
Chelsea has a young team with many of the players only arriving at Stamford Bridge over the summer, so it was understandable that the manager be given some leeway.
However, the Blues’ performances have not been up to scratch this season, made worse by the manner of their defeats.
Some players have been showing a lack of character and fighting spirit - an indication the manager is struggling to motivate his players.
That, coupled with the fact that Chelsea could end up missing out on the top four, is said to have convinced club owner, Roman Abramovich that a change is needed.
There are now reports in the UK claiming that the defeat to Leicester will be Lampard’s last game in charge.
Other sources say it’s a matter of when, not if, the former midfielder gets the sack.
Lampard, for his part, admits that the pressure is piling on.
However, he’s refusing to dwell too much on his possible sacking, saying the matter is out of his hands.
