More Victims Evacuated As Flood In Kelantan, Terengganu And Perak Worsens

Due to the ongoing rain, the flood situation in three states namely Kelantan, Terengganu, and Perak has gotten worse, and more victims have been evacuated to relief centers.

On Sunday (18 December), the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) issued a danger-level weather alert, predicting that Terengganu and some areas of Kelantan will experience nonstop heavy rain until Tuesday.

While an alert-level continuous rain notice has been issued for Perlis, Penang, as well as several areas in Kedah, Perak, and Johor, severe-level continuous heavy rain is expected to occur in several areas in Kedah, Kelantan, Perak, and Pahang.

According to Malay Mail, the number of flood victims in Kelantan increased to 3,320 in the evening from 1,584 earlier from 490 families, involving 32 relief centers in seven districts, including Kota Bharu, Pasir Mas, Tanah Merah, Pasir Puteh, Kuala Krai, Machang, and Jeli.

The number of flood-affected residents in Terengganu who have been housed in relief centers has gone up to 1,866 people from 512 families, an increase from 47 people from 13 families.

Meanwhile, 47 victims from 15 families were being housed in two relief centers in Perak as of 2 pm on Sunday. The centers are located at SM Abdul Rahman Talib in Batu 4 and SK Sungai Tiang Darat.

At the same time, there are still 75 flood victims in Johor, from 21 families in Segamat who have been housed in three relief centers at the Kampung Batu Badak community hall, which is the home for 34 people; Kampung Kuala Paya community hall, which is currently housing 27 victims and Kampung Tasek community hall (14).
