With so many of us stuck indoors during the MCO, its no surprise that we’ve turned to online shopping.

Food and groceries are among the common items that we have delivered to our doorsteps, but more and more people have also been purchasing big ticket items like electronic and electrical appliances.
This could prove to be a problem, because there’s sometimes no way of checking if these items have the necessary safety certification.
In fact, authorities say there were 45 accidents involving electrical and electronic goods last year, 28 of which ended in fatalities.
The good news is SIRIM is working on addressing this issue.
The organization in charge of standards and quality is coming up with a way for consumers to check if the electronic and electrical items they buy online have the necessary safety certificates.
This will be rolled out as soon as its ready.
Currently, SIRIM’s application only allows you to check on the certification of items purchased in-store.
In the meantime, though, consumers can stay safe by ensuring that you only purchase your electrical goods from authorized online sellers.
