For the first time ever, Barcelona have topped Forbes’ list of the world’s most valuable football clubs. The Catalan side just barely overtook their bitter rivals Real Madrid to take the top spot. Barca were valued at $4.76 billion, marginally ahead of Real’s $4.75 billion valuation.
Prior to this, the number one spot had been monopolized by two teams – Real Madrid (5 times) and Man United (11 times). Speaking of United, the Red Devils were knocked out of the top three by Bayern Munich. The defending German and European champions were valued at $4.22 billion.
United – who are globally popular despite not winning a major trophy since the Europa League in 2017 – came in at fourth place with a valuation of $4.2 billion. But the biggest improvement was made by Liverpool – who moved from eighth up to fifth in the Forbes’ list.
The reigning Premier League champions were valued at $4.1 billion…putting them ahead of the traditionally-wealthy Man City and Chelsea. Here’s the full Forbes’ list of the world’s most valuable football clubs:
