Since the COVID-19 pandemic hit the city of Bangkok, Thailand, many taxi drivers were out of jobs and had to leave their taxis idle and decaying in a ‘taxi graveyard’.
Now, mini vegetable gardens have recently sprung up in this Bangkok parking lot offering patches of spring onions, basil, eggplants, and chilies.

This would not have been an unusual sight, except that they are growing on the roofs and bonnets of the dozens of pink and orange cabs.
Rice straws are spread over the soil to keep it moist in the blazing hot sun.
According to Channel News Asia, about 200 vehicles have stood still in this huge parking lot of the Ratchapruek Taxi Garage on Bang Waek road for nearly a year now, abandoned by drivers who could no longer afford to keep them amidst the pandemic.
Thailand had imposed tough restrictions in order to curb the spread of COVID-19, including a night-time curfew!

The eggplants, chillies, cucumbers, courgettes and basil grown on the cars, will help feed the out-of-work drivers and employees. And if the crops are good, they might sell any surplus at local markets for other people to enjoy.
