The footage, uploaded by GPM Ambulance, shows a white Honda closely following the ambulance, weaving through traffic that had cleared to make way for the emergency vehicle. The Honda's hazard lights were on as it mirrored the ambulance's movements.
"These are the kind of humans who only care about themselves, following an ambulance and putting other road users at risk," GPM Ambulance stated in the post.
The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday, 1 December, at around 5.15pm along the Federal Highway, from Shah Alam heading to Klang.
Since being shared, the video has gone viral, amassing over 160,000 views and sparking outrage among netizens. Many condemned the driver's reckless actions, with some questioning whether the individual might have been a family member of the patient inside the ambulance.
However, commenters were quick to highlight that such behaviour is unacceptable, regardless of the circumstances.
"Even if you are a relative, only one next of kin is allowed to accompany the patient inside the ambulance. The rest must use another mode of transport, and definitely not like this," one TikTok user remarked.
Another added, "Driving recklessly behind an ambulance could lead to accidents, making an already critical situation worse for everyone involved."
This type of behaviour poses a serious danger to other road users. Ambulances require a clear path to transport patients quickly and safely. Tailgating not only disrupts traffic flow but increases the risk of collisions, endangering lives on the road.
