In line with Nestlé’s efforts to shape a waste-free future, the Swiss-based company here in Malaysia has teamed up with the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) for a campaign aimed at encouraging good recycling habits amongst local communities.
The launch of this pioneering project will see Nestlé’s partnership with MBPJ scale up new and existing kerbside collection for recycling in Bandar Sri Damansara and Ara Damansara.
“As a company dedicated to shaping a waste-free future, we are committed to being part of the solution to bring about positive change. Alongside our proactive measures to pivot to eco-friendly ways, including our recent transition to paper straws for our UHT range, we recognise the need to inspire positive behavioural change for an effective and lasting impact on the environment. This partnership with MBPJ and our recently launched PPR programme will benefit over 13,000 households, and we hope to expand to more communities moving forward,” said CEO of Nestlé Malaysia Mr Juan Aranols.
Nestlé Malaysia already has a couple of other ongoing initiatives in their commitment to a waste-free future.
It recently launched a recycling collection programme in People’s Housing Project (PPR) Lembah Subang 1 in Taman Putra Damai, in partnership with waste separation and recycling solution provider, iCycle.
Meanwhile, the company has also unveiled new packaging communications, which features recycling education on-pack, to inform consumers on how to separate their Nestlé product packaging to facilitate recycling.
“On average, each Malaysian generates 1.17kg of waste daily. Approximately 90% of all domestic waste goes to landfills and already, there are too many landfills in Malaysia overflowing with waste. This project will provide the opportunity to promote better recycling habits by making it more accessible for the community. We hope that this joint effort will inspire Malaysians to manage their waste responsibly and make recycling part of their daily lives,” said Petaling Jaya Mayor YBhg Dato’ Mohd Sayuthi bin Bakar.
