IKEA Malaysia Puts Affordability at Core Amid Changing Life at Home Trends

Staying in can be just as exciting as going out, and this September IKEA Malaysia is set to prove it. From 13 September to 5 October 2025, all four stores including Damansara, Cheras, Tebrau and Batu Kawan will be transformed into lively spaces for the IKEA House Party.

The month-long event is packed with activities that celebrate everyday living. Visitors can look forward to cooking demonstrations, creative table-styling workshops, cosy live gigs and the much-anticipated “Ultimate Cookoff” where three winners will each take home a kitchen makeover worth RM10,000. The celebration is an invitation for Malaysians to rediscover the joy of their own homes, especially in spaces where food, family and togetherness naturally come alive.

“The kitchen is often the heart of the Malaysian home, where laughter, bonding and traditions are passed on through meals,” said Malcolm Pruys, Country Retail Director of IKEA Malaysia. “Through IKEA House Party, we want to inspire Malaysians with ideas that make their homes more joyful, sustainable and meaningful, despite rising costs and busier lifestyles.”

The event draws inspiration from the latest Life at Home report, which highlights how Malaysians increasingly view home as more than just a place to rest. The kitchen in particular remains central to health, savings and family moments, while living spaces are equally valued for comfort, hobbies and creating welcoming environments.

Design also plays a big role in shaping these experiences. IKEA Sweden’s Senior Designer, Marcus Arvonen, shared how the company’s approach is guided by “democratic design,” ensuring that products are not only visually appealing but also functional, durable and sustainable. “What excites me is how design connects with people’s real lives. It is about creating solutions that truly reflect how families live, cook and gather,” he said.

Beyond design, the House Party also underscores IKEA Malaysia’s efforts to make sustainable living a natural part of everyday life. From reducing food waste in the kitchen to creating storage solutions that bring order to any room, the celebration highlights simple but impactful ways Malaysians can make their homes more liveable.

With a mix of learning, entertainment and inspiration, the IKEA House Party is set to be a celebration of home in all its forms. It is a reminder that joy does not just happen outside but can be found right where we live.
