In conjunction with the International Day of Happiness, the Urban and Rural Planning Department listed out the ten of the happiest cities in Malaysia.
In a statement issued via its Facebook page, the ten cities listed are:
- Malacca
- Kuala Terengganu
- Seremban
- Kulai
- Taiping
- Kuantan
- Bentong
- Jasin
- Yan
- Jeli
The cities were judged based on the population's well-being, which includes their mental and physical well-being.
The Happiness Index is said to be one of the indicators in Malaysian Urban Rural National Indicators Network for Sustainable Development (MURNInets), that derives the index based on 39 indicators such as happiness with family and relatives, pleasure in working, relationship with neighbours, community activities and environmental quality.
The Happiness Index involves over 36,000 citizens, across 14 states, and includes the participation of 106 local authorities.
The index aims to assist local governments in determining the level of happiness and well-being of the people in the respective areas of administration which will hopefully result in a better delivery system and services.
Well done to these cities and we hope more cities can strive to be happy too!
