We compiled some amazing Malaysian movies that you could stream for free on AstroGo, and here are some of our favourites:

#1 Talentime

Directed by the late Yasmin Ahmad, this film tells a story of a talent search competition that has matched two hearts together - that of Melur, a Malay-mixed girl and an Indian male student, Mahesh.

Melur with her melodious voice, singing whilst playing the piano is one of the seven finalists of the Talentime competition of her school organised by Cikgu Adibah. Meanwhile Hafiz, enthralling with his vocalist talent while playing the guitar, divides his time between school and his mother, who is hospitalised with a brain tumour. 

#2 Magika

Directed by Edry Abdul Halim, “Magika” is Malaysia’s first musical theater film released in 2010. 

Magika tells the tale of two siblings, Malik and Ayu, as they embark on a journey in a surreal mystical world, where trees, animals and all flora and fauna converse… where good and bad are portrayed in a muted, non-violent manner. Their fairytale adventure takes us through popular Malay legends and myths, encountering numerous characters from Malay folklore such as Orang Bunian, Nenek Kebayan, Jin, Badang, Naga Tasik Chini, Hang Tuah and others.

#3 Ola Bola

This film is set in the 1980s during the tumultuous economic times, about an unlikely team of footballers whose disagreements have left them with a streak of embarrassing losses. 

Personal issues have caused each of them to crack under pressure while the team slowly falls apart. The team has only one chance for international glory, and this multicultural team has to find it in their hearts to overcome their individuality, and unite for the sake of an entire country.

#4 Ejen Ali

After being accidentally recruited as a spy, 12-year-old Ali is now an agent, and has grown to embrace his role in the secret agency Meta Advance Tactical Agency (MATA) to protect the futuristic city of Cyberaya from outsiders.

#5 Vennira Iravugal

This Malaysian Tamil romantic comedy tells a story about a rich, seemingly irresponsible senior student, Ramesh, at a university.

Ramesh and his sidekick, rag junior female students but he then found himself falling for a freshie, Megala. They soon get together to the extent that she begins to have full faith in him in spite of her friends warning her to be careful of Ramesh and his friends. Ramesh then suddenly vanishes taking Megala’s money by using her bank card and runs off to Myanmar, and Megala goes in search of Ramesh determined to get her money back.
