Feeling bored at home?
It is now day 7 of the Movement Control Order and staying at home can be tough for some people who are used to doing outdoor activities.
However, there is some good news! Companies are offering their services for free in order to help people during this time, like how Astro is offering all its channels gratis until 31 March!
But if you’re more of a book person, you can also “borrow” eBooks from our very own National Library.
The books can be accessed via the web or an app, but do note that there’s a limited number of copies per title which is likely due to the library’s licensing agreement - so you’ll have to wait for the other person to return the book first!
The National Library has opened up over 13.2 Million digital reading materials for free to Malaysians. This was launched as part of their “Please Sit At Home And Read” campaign in line with the government’s movement control order.
If you want to borrow a book, here’s what you need to do:
Simply access PNM’s website at [link]
Click ‘Register’ and fill in your details
You will receive an ‘activation link’ in your registered e-mail address
Check your e-mail and activate your account
Download the PNM e-reader app and sign in
Select a book that you would like to read and click ‘reserve’
Newspapers will also be available for the public to read, including past editions. The National Library even included a tutorial on how to access the materials on their Instagram page.
A fact about reading is that not only books help to cure boredom, it also helps people engage with the outside world without even leaving their houses. Try it out!
