It is one of Istana Budaya’s highlights for the 2020 season.
This multiple award-winning show is inspired by Roald Dahl’s 1988 children’s book of the same name, which follows the story of a five-year-old girl who loves reading and has the natural gift of telekinesis. Yup, she can move things with her mind!
According to The Star, the musical production is commissioned by the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) and played to sold-out audiences at the RSC’s The Courtyard Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon in England for 12 weeks from November 2010 to January 2011.
Since it’s premiere at the RSC’s The Courtyard Theatre, the musical has also played at West End and Broadway.
Winner of over 85 international awards, including 16 for Best Musical, it also went on to win seven Olivier Awards in 2012 and five Tony Awards in 2013. Matilda The Musical is now in its ninth year in London and has been watched by more than eight million people.
The KL showing of Matilda The Musical, presented by Tremendous Experiences, is the fourth leg of the original London West End musical’s Asian tour after stops in Singapore, China and Bangkok.
With an amazing cast of energetic children, Matilda The Musical will be staged for a limited season only from 2 June 2020 onwards.
Some of the musical’s best-known songs include Miracle, Naughty and Revolting Children.
Performance times are 8.30 pm (weekdays) and 2.00 pm and 8.30 pm (weekdays). Each showing is two hours and 20 minutes long.
Ticket prices range from RM200 to RM650, excluding processing fees and can now be purchased here.
