There are times when parents think they know better than you and what you should study, who you should date and what career path you should follow.
…sometimes, we wish we could control our parents - just turn everything off, to pause them for three minutes while we get our heads together or fast-forward to the end of their endless nagging.
Well, if that’s something you’ve thought about as a kid… we think you might enjoy this sci-fi family-comedy series on Astro, Take CTRL!
#1 Relatable parents!
Take CTRL is about siblings, Sky and Ramunah who have been CTRL-ed by their strict parents their whole life, until they stumble upon a mind-controlling video game and get a taste of what it feels to take CTRL!
The story touches on the parents and kids dynamic. Urban parents in Malaysia tend to be very CTRL-ing (we can kinda vouch for that) of their kids but also wanting to trust them to grow at their own pace and let them be the best that they can be.
But as per the show’s tagline “with control comes chaos”, the kids ultimately learn that having CTRL, is not as it seems to be as there are always consequences.
After getting to CTRL their parents, Sky and Ramunah also realize that they actually have to take care of them as well, like making sure that their parents ate and went to work.
Pretty exhausting for two teens to handle if you ask us!
#2 Unreal, but pretty real CGI!
Another thing that really draws us to keep watching this series is the impressive CGI!
Take CTRL is the first local series to use Unreal Engine, a cutting edge real-time 3D creative engine for all its CGI. It looks pretty real!
Take CTRL’s artistic homage to the video game genres was quite enjoyable!
#3 Amazing actors and some surprising cameos!
These talented, up-and-coming actors Faiz Najib and Sry Khairudin perfectly nailed the frustrations of overbearing Malaysian teenagers, while actors Shaheizy Sam “The Peacemaker” and Hana Nadira “The Tiger Mom” really reminded us of our own parents!
Also, we did notice two other familiar faces in the series… popular digital content creators Jenn Chia who plays Aunty Siow, “Mama’s Boss” and Jinnyboy as the “dodgy ad guy.”
We feel like Take CTRL accomplished what it was set out to do and that is to entertain Malaysians! So, you definitely should check out Take CTRL today, and don’t miss its final episode this Saturday, March 5th at 9pm!
