“Memalukan!” Frustrated Visitor Shames Litterbugs in Genting Highlands in Now-Viral Clip

It’s honestly disappointing. For a country blessed with lush rainforests, stunning waterfalls, and cool highland breezes, Malaysians still have a long way to go when it comes to respecting nature.

Despite the growing trend of seeking “healing” in nature… whether it’s camping, picnicking, or just stopping by for some fresh air, some people are leaving behind more than just footprints. They’re leaving trash.

A viral TikTok video by user @srsuperrocket1 has highlighted just how bad things have gotten at one scenic stop along the Genting Highlands route. Instead of crisp mountain air and calming views, visitors are greeted by plastic bags, takeaway containers, bottles, and other discarded rubbish strewn across the grass and roadside.

In the video, he says, “I know a lot of people like to come here to relax, enjoy nature, or even camp. But can you at least clean up after yourselves? It’s not that hard.”

His frustration is valid. The camera slowly reveals the mess, and it's hard not to feel secondhand shame. What should be a peaceful retreat looks more like a neglected dumping ground.

And really, no one’s asking you to lead a gotong-royong or start a conservation campaign. The bare minimum is simple—take your rubbish with you and dispose of it properly. Bins are everywhere, from R&Rs to petrol stations. There’s no excuse.

So the next time you pack for a "healing" trip to the highlands or a weekend at a waterfall, pack a trash bag too. Because loving nature isn't just about admiring the view—it’s about protecting it. Let’s stop turning paradise into a trash pile.
