Announcing the Kind Hearts Meals programme on his Facebook page, Uncle Kentang shared that students at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) in Sungai Long can now enjoy full meals for just RM6 using meal coupons. This initiative is designed to help students focus on their studies without worrying about their next meal.

“UTAR students in Sungai Long, we’ve launched Kind Hearts Meals for those in need,” he wrote. “You concentrate on your studies, and we’ll make sure your meals are taken care of.”

The coupons can be redeemed at two local stalls: a nasi lemak vendor known for her generosity and a mixed rice stall operated by a pastor who treats students like his own children.

Sharing an inspiring story, Uncle Kentang revealed the kind-hearted actions of the nasi lemak seller: “This woman from Sungai Long notices when students hesitate to add meat to their meals because of cost. She insists they take the meat anyway, ensuring they have a proper meal. It’s as if she’s running a charity instead of a business.”

He also commended the pastor who owns the mixed rice stall, saying: “The owner of MR.B Mixed Rice (B记) is a pastor with a big heart. He keeps his prices low and looks after students as though they were his own.”

The programme has also been extended to Tunku Abdul Rahman University (TAR) in Setapak, where posters have been placed to promote the initiative, and coupons are being distributed to students in need.

Uncle Kentang highlighted the hardships some students face. One student, the child of factory workers with limited income, shared how his parents work tirelessly to ensure he can pursue his education. Another student from Papar, Sabah, lost his father years ago and relies on the unwavering support of his mother, a cleaner, to continue his studies.

By launching the Kind Hearts Meals programme, Uncle Kentang hopes to lighten the financial burden on students and their families. He also encourages more universities and colleges to join the initiative, ensuring that every student has access to affordable, nutritious meals.
