A recent example of this phenomenon comes from a British traveller who has been singing the praises of Kuala Lumpur’s public transport system, specifically its monorail network.
The traveller, known as @justrolliwithme on TikTok, recently shared his admiration for Kuala Lumpur’s elevated monorail system, drawing a stark comparison with London’s public transport options. His video, which shows him standing in awe as a sleek monorail glides by, has captured widespread attention with over 1.3 million views and more than 72,600 likes on the platform.
In his post, @justrolliwithme expressed his confusion as to why a major city like London, despite being one of the wealthiest in Europe, does not have a monorail system. He even took a playful jab at London Mayor Sadiq Khan, suggesting that the city's resources could be better allocated towards such an innovation.
Malaysian viewers didn’t hold back in their responses, using the opportunity to weigh in on the debate. Some Malaysians pointed out that the local interest in monorails might be limited, with some preferring to have cooler weather instead.
On the other hand, many Malaysians were pleased to see the UK traveller’s appreciation for the monorail system, with some even acknowledging that Londoners might be envious of Malaysia’s advancements in public transport.
Others pointed out that London’s existing underground metro system already serves as an extensive and efficient means of transportation, making a monorail less of a necessity.
