Malaysian Student Uses SARA Aid To Launch Kek Batik Business, Cakes Sell Out Fast

The government has been giving out a one-off RM100 cash aid through the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) programme for Malaysians aged 18 and above.

The credit is placed directly onto MyKad and can be used until the end of December.

While many Malaysians chose to spend the aid on daily necessities, one student decided to take a different route. Instead of stocking up on groceries, she turned her RM100 into startup capital during her semester break.

Her mother, @farraheeda, shared on Threads that her 22-year-old daughter started a small batik cake business using the aid. She spent the money on ingredients such as biscuits, Milo, and milk, which were all covered under the SARA programme’s eligible items.

The response was overwhelming. Before she could even prepare her next batch, every piece of batik cake had already sold out. Her mother proudly mentioned that she only helped with packaging, while her daughter managed everything else. The young entrepreneur is now even dreaming of opening her own café someday.

The story quickly went viral online, with Malaysians praising her creativity and determination. Supportive comments poured in, with many calling her move “super smart” and wishing her success in the future.

Wow, that’s really smart!

Most of us wouldn’t even think of doing that, and it’s so nice to see Malaysians showing support and motivating her to keep going. What a meaningful way to use the government’s cash aid, truly inspiring!
