Post-Merdeka Parade Scene: Grandstand Littered with Bottles, Leftover Food, and Flags

Despite the change in government, this year's Merdeka parade held in Putrajaya highlighted an ongoing issue that reflects poorly on society: littering and a lack of public hygiene consciousness.

Reports from a local news outlet shed light on the unfortunate reality that heaps of rubbish marred the parade venue. The once pristine pavements and corridors near governmental offices were strewn with trash, showcasing a stark disregard for cleanliness and civic responsibility. Even those fortunate enough to secure seats at the grandstand were not immune to this issue, as leftover food, bottles, and flags littered the area beneath the seats.

Expressing their disappointment, an Alam Flora supervisor pointed out that the volume of garbage left behind was a staggering five times more than usual. What was particularly disheartening was that despite the presence of 700 strategically placed mobile garbage cans provided by Alam Flora for the event, many Malaysians chose to irresponsibly leave their garbage strewn across the area.

This incident serves as a poignant reminder that, as a society, there is much room for improvement in terms of our collective responsibility to maintain clean and hygienic public spaces. While we often discuss the need for progress on a national level, it is equally crucial for individuals to take ownership of their actions and contribute positively to society.

Maintaining cleanliness in public areas is not just a matter of aesthetics; it reflects our values, respect for our surroundings, and consideration for fellow citizens.

By upholding cleanliness as a shared responsibility, we can create a more pleasant and hygienic environment for all, ultimately shaping a society that takes pride in its public spaces.
