The Portuguese Man o’War or also known as obor-obor api beracun in Malay, has recently been spotted stranded along the Bukit Keluang Beach in Terengganu.

So, if you see a blue, violet or maybe pink jellyfish-like thing floating in the water… just stay away from them!

The Pusat Rujukan & Repository Laut China Selatan (RRC) took to their Facebook page to urge the public to be cautious and avoid touching the jellyfish. Although the jellyfish won’t kill you, it is not advisable to touch them because their sting can be quite painful!

In another post they explained that the sting from its long tentacles is painful and strong enough to kill a fish, or very rarely, humans.

Though it looks like a normal jellyfish, the Man o’War is a species of siphonophore, a group of animals that are closely related to jellyfish.
