According to BERNAMA, one of the female students lodged a police report after her neighbour told her that a suspected “Arab man” was peeping into her home through their bathroom window.

Sepang district police chief, ACP Wan Kamarul Azran Wan Yusof said that the man took a pair of jeans belonging to one of the female students, “the man had opened the toilet window and stood next to it to take a pair of pants belonging to the woman’s housemate.

“The man’s actions were recorded by the complainant’s neighbour before he fled,” he said in a statement, as reported by The Star.

The man was arrested at about 4 pm on the same day.

The recent incident has sparked discussion online on how to deal with the situation safely. There are some who also took to the comment section to praise the woman for her bravery in confronting the stranger.

If you ever witness an emergency happening right before your eyes, you would certainly take some sort of action to help the person in trouble, right?

A bystander intervention is knowing a potentially harmful situation or interaction and choosing to respond in a way that could positively influence the outcome.

It’s great that you want to help, but remember to always assess the situation first and make sure that it is safe for you to intervene!

Notice the event!

People can be busy and distracted and sometimes they are not aware of their surroundings. Pay attention to what is going on around you!

It is your responsibility as a bystander because…

“If not you, then who?” Never assume that someone else will do something. Be brave and confident to help first!

Know how to help!

NEVER put yourself in harm’s way but do something about it! Help can either be direct or indirect.

You can help directly if the person is between the people you know, or if you are 100% sure that the situation is safe. However, if there is a stranger involved and you’re not sure whether it’s safe for you to intervene, always call for help like the police!

It’s even better if you can take some photos or even record a video to be used as evidence later.

Everyone has an important role to play when it comes to taking care of each other. When you notice something going on, ACT FAST!

But do it safely…

Massive respect to you, Intan! You are so brave for standing up for your neighbour. Thank you for helping the victim!
