A TikTok video posted by user @kak_chom shows two able-bodied women occupying priority seats meant for senior citizens and individuals with special needs. Despite the presence of elderly passengers, the women refused to vacate the seats. The video has since gone viral, drawing sharp criticism from netizens.
Expressing frustration, the user explained that some individuals seem to lack civic sense or consideration for others, pointing out that the seats were clearly marked for senior citizens and those in need, yet the women acted as if they were doing nothing wrong.
The video prompted numerous comments from viewers. One person remarked that perhaps the women believed themselves to be senior citizens too. Another explained that while they sometimes sit in the priority zone, they would always vacate the seat if someone genuinely needed it.
Others shared personal experiences, including one user who recounted a similar incident. “When I was pregnant, no one gave up their seat for me,” they shared, emphasising the ongoing lack of awareness and kindness in such situations.
Priority seats, reserved parking for women, and designated coach areas exist for specific and important reasons. These measures aim to ensure the safety, convenience, and dignity of vulnerable groups, including the elderly, pregnant women, and families with young children. Ignoring these allocations not only reflects a lack of civic responsibility but also deprives those who genuinely need assistance.
