A Malaysian driver had quite an unusual encounter on a busy road in Kajang recently, leaving him both confused and concerned. What was meant to be a routine stop at a traffic light quickly turned into something far more bizarre.

According to dashcam footage shared on Facebook, the driver had pulled up to a red light next to a motorcyclist, presumably on his way somewhere like everyone else on the road. But instead of staying on his bike and waiting for the light to turn green, the motorcyclist — an older man — decided to park his bike, get off, and sit on the road divider.
It didn’t end there. After lighting a cigarette and removing his helmet, the man casually walked towards the middle of the road and took a seat right on the tarmac, puffing away without a care in the world. This all happened in broad daylight, surrounded by moving traffic.
Even as the light turned green, he stayed put. The driver attempted to get his attention, but the man ignored him completely. Eventually, the driver was forced to change lanes to avoid hitting him.
Why is this dangerous?
Sitting in the middle of the road poses obvious risks, not just to the person involved, but also to other motorists. Here are a few dangers that could occur in situations like this:
Risk of being hit by a car, especially if other drivers are not paying attention or if visibility is poor.
-
Causing an accident as drivers swerve or brake suddenly to avoid the individual.
-
Delays and congestion in already busy traffic conditions.
-
Distraction to other road users, increasing the likelihood of collisions.
What you should do?
-
If you ever come across a similar situation:
-
Stay inside your vehicle. It’s safer for you and avoids adding to the chaos.
-
Avoid confrontation. You do not know the mental or emotional state of the person involved.
-
Keep a safe distance and switch lanes carefully if needed

Report the incident to local authorities or traffic police immediately, especially if the person is endangering themselves or others.
While moments like these may seem absurd or amusing at first, they are also reminders of how unpredictable the road can be. Your safety — and the safety of others — should always come first.
