Lorry Driver And “Mat Rempits” Try Running Red Light & Almost Hitting Each Other

Running a red light is wrong, no matter what! 

…especially if you’re driving at night because visibility is VERY limited and there might be another car, a lorry or a motorcycle on the other side and if you don’t see them, you could have a serious crash.

A video recently went viral of a group of Mat Rempits cutting through a traffic light as it was about to turn green and was almost run over by a lorry. 

In the video, a group of Mat Rempit is seen running a red light before a lorry drives through a few seconds later, almost missing the scampering motorcyclists who managed to leave the scene at that point. 

The driver, trying to stop the lorry, probably slammed on the brakes which caused the lorry to turn and stopped, fortunately without colliding with other road users. 

Netizens who took to the comment section have come to a conclusion that both the riders and lorry driver are at fault for disregarding the traffic lights. 

“The traffic light at the Mat Rempits side turned green soon after, which means that the lorry’s traffic light had turned red for a while,” one person said. 

The video, which was shared on the 我们是马来西亚人 We are Malaysians Facebook page has since garnered over 36,000 views at the time of writing.

In Malaysia, under  Section 79 of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987, a summons can be issued for a red light offence, which provides for a maximum compound fine of RM300 and a court fine not exceeding RM2,000.
