K-pop idols are known for their immense talent, hard work, and captivating stage presence. Among the prominent figures in this world are MONSTA X’s Shownu, SEVENTEEN’s Mingyu, and GOT7’s Yugyeom.
These idols have not only garnered massive fan bases but have also become role models for many aspiring artists.
In 2019, Shownu, Mingyu, and Yugyeom shared the stage at the KBS Song Festival, delivering a memorable performance. Nearly five years later, Shownu and Mingyu reunited on the first episode of the YouTube show NOPOGY, where they reflected on their past collaboration.
During the show, Mingyu opened up about his insecurities before the performance. He admitted feeling immense pressure to match the skill level of Shownu and Yugyeom, who are both main dancers in their respective groups.
"Back then, I didn’t want to be seen as lacking, not just physically, but skill-wise too," Mingyu confessed. He felt an added burden knowing Shownu's focus was solely on perfecting his dance moves.
"You were rather focused on how to do your part well, while I was pressured to do better than you," Mingyu explained. This pressure stemmed from the fact that Shownu and Yugyeom are considered among the finest dancers in the Korean idol world.
Mingyu, thrust into this dynamic without his fellow SEVENTEEN members, felt out of place and anxious about his performance.
However, Shownu reassured Mingyu, stating that his talent was never in question. According to Shownu, the reason the festival staff wanted them together on stage was their similar physiques, not just their dancing abilities.
"Rather than a performance standpoint, they chose someone of similar size," Shownu pointed out.
This interaction highlights the supportive and encouraging relationships that can exist between idols from different groups. Shownu's big brotherly demeanour, coupled with his reassuring words, helped ease Mingyu's concerns and showcased the camaraderie among K-pop idols.
We love this kind of interaction!
