It’s not uncommon to hear about delivery riders zipping through traffic to meet tight deadlines, but in this case, a group of them raced through the streets for something far more heroic.
In Melaka last week, six delivery riders jumped into action when they spotted a man attempting a snatch theft while disguised as one of their own. A colleague had witnessed the crime outside a supermarket in Bachang and quickly alerted the others. Without hesitation, they began a pursuit.

The chase stretched over 12 kilometres to Malim, where the suspect was finally caught. One of the riders, 22-year-old Muhammad Haikal, shared that the man put up a fight and tried to escape before more help arrived. He said they simply wanted to assist the authorities and prevent someone from giving honest riders a bad name.
Another rider, 55-year-old Abdul Aziz, explained that police had already warned them about someone impersonating a delivery rider to commit crimes. He and a few others had created a WhatsApp group to keep each other informed and to stay vigilant.
Thanks to their coordination and determination, the suspect was detained. The riders were later recognised by Melaka police, who awarded them Certificates of Appreciation in a small ceremony.
While this act of bravery is certainly commendable, always remember that your safety comes first. If you suspect any situation might be dangerous, it is best to stay away and let the authorities do what they are trained to do.
Nonetheless, we want to send a huge thank you to these incredible abang riders for stepping up and showing us all what true heroism looks like on the streets.
