Car Battery Stolen Again! M’sian Warns LRT Glenmarie Commuters After Car Battery Theft

Car battery thefts may sound like a thing of the past, but unfortunately, they are still very common in Malaysia, especially in areas with limited security and poor visibility.

The reason is simple: car batteries are surprisingly valuable. They can be sold for quick cash at workshops or scrap yards, and since they are easy to remove, thieves can be in and out within minutes.

Recently, a string of these thefts has been reported near the LRT Glenmarie station, sparking concern among regular commuters who park their vehicles there.

In a viral Instagram video posted by @baterikudotcom, a man shared a warning with fellow LRT users. He advised drivers to be extra cautious when parking near the Glenmarie station, especially in areas far from the entrance and hidden from view.

The video showed a car that had its battery stolen for the second time. According to the man, the car was parked along a hilly roadside, quite a distance from the main station entrance.

While the station's limited parking availability often pushes drivers to leave their cars in these less secure spots, he strongly advised against it, “There have been many reports of car battery thefts in this area,” he said, adding that it is not just a one-off incident.

He urged the public to park closer to the entrance or in well-lit and frequently patrolled areas, even if it means walking a little further to the station.

Simple Tips to Protect Your Car from Battery Theft:

  • Park in busy, well-lit areas with foot traffic or CCTV coverage

  • Avoid secluded roadsides or dim corners, especially if the area is not guarded

  • Use a battery lock or bracket to make it harder for thieves to remove your battery quickly

  • Check your surroundings before leaving your car, and trust your instincts if something feels off

If your car battery is stolen, report it immediately to the police and the nearby station authorities. You should also file a report with your insurance provider and check for any damage done to your vehicle during the theft.
