A short clip of former US President Donald Trump’s motorcade gliding along a Malaysian highway has unexpectedly gone viral, and not for the reason you’d think.

The 12-second video, shared by Margo Martin, Trump’s Special Assistant and Communications Advisor, on X (formerly Twitter), shows The Beast, the bulletproof limousine synonymous with the US presidency, making its way down the Maju Expressway (MEX) on Sunday, 26 October.

The convoy was reportedly travelling from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, where Trump was attending the 47th ASEAN Summit. Martin captioned the post simply: President Trump’s motorcade drives through Malaysia en route to the ASEAN Summit.

Since then, the video has attracted more than 2.6 million views, but rather than the former president, netizens were captivated by Malaysia itself.

Many were quick to compliment the country’s scenery and infrastructure. One user commented that Malaysia is such a beautiful country. Another wrote that the authorities cleared the highway both ways, saying it showed much respect. Someone else asked why Malaysia seems to have better roads than the US.

One user even pointed out the picturesque route from the airport to the city, noting the endless rows of palm oil trees that line the way. Others kept their focus on the visit, offering kind wishes for Trump’s journey, saying it looked like a beautiful drive and that the motorcade was in great form. Many also wished President Trump a safe and enjoyable visit.

According to the New Straits Times, Trump landed in Malaysia around 10am on Sunday and departed for Japan at the same time the following morning. His short stay concluded with Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail personally sending him off at KLIA.

It was a fleeting visit, but one that momentarily turned Malaysia’s highways into the star of the show.
