A family from Ipoh has captured the attention of Malaysians online, not for a viral dance or a trending challenge, but for something far rarer: their multiracial makeup.

The family, who visited the popular Penang eatery Nasi Kandar Sulaiman, includes members who are Malay, Chinese, and Indian. At first, restaurant staff assumed they were a group of neighbours dining together. It was only when the family spoke to them that the truth came out. They are all part of the same family.
“Here, in this one family, they have Malays, Chinese, and Indians. We initially thought they were neighbours, but they told us they are all one family,” wrote Nasi Kandar Sulaiman on their Facebook page. “It’s so beautiful to see the unity in this family. They are very close. It’s rare to see a family like this.”
The family’s story has left many Malaysians both shocked and delighted.
People are curious about how such a diverse family came to be while also admiring the harmony they clearly share, “Even in mixed-race families, it’s usually between two races. But here, there are three,” one social media user commented. Another added, “This is truly 1Malaysia. May this family always be happy.”
