Living in a multicultural country means being surrounded by diverse traditions and vibrant celebrations. With Christmas and Chinese New Year just behind us, it’s now time for Thaipusam—a deeply sacred Hindu festival dedicated to Lord Murugan.
Devotees mark the occasion with solemn prayers, acts of devotion, and grand processions, including the revered kavadi ritual.

One Malaysian recently shared her delight when she unexpectedly became part of the festivities—without even leaving her home!
"I don’t have to join the parade; I can witness it right in front of my home," she shared, as a group of devotees passed by her house, turning an ordinary day into a mesmerising cultural experience.
Since she lives near Batu Caves, a key site for Thaipusam celebrations, fellow Gombak residents chimed in with similar experiences.
"This is Gombak! We love seeing this happen every year," one commenter said. Another added, "I’m witnessing the same thing too. Hello, neighbour!"
A user explained the joyous atmosphere, saying, "The singing and dancing are to motivate the kavadi carriers and keep the energy high."
For those celebrating, may you have a blessed Thaipusam filled with devotion and joy. Oh, and stay safe!
