He had received a call from his family members informing him that his mother had a stroke and was being treated in the intensive care unit.

After hearing the news, Syahrel immediately completed his work and went back home to Sabah to be with his mother.

Once he returned back to work, he found out that his colleagues had been pooling money to help him with his mother.

He was surprised to see that there were over 30 names and consisted of people from different races as well: “Race is just race, but the pureness of the hearts?”

“Thank you for the prayers and all the well wishes. I hope for God to repay all of your kindness,” he wrote in his tweet.

The tweet has since been shared over 6,000 times. Many took to the comment section to praise Syahrel’s colleagues for their generosity and kindness.

Some even shared their own experience of having friends of a different race, “This is true. Race is just race. I’ve borrowed RM2,000 from my ex-boss who is a Hindu because I needed money at that time.

“When I wanted to return the money, he refused to take it and said that he wanted to help me sincerely,” one person shared.

“We don’t have racism in our daily routine. When someone needs help, we help them. That is Malaysia,” another person commented on the post.

What a heartwarming story! It’s always better to have friends of other races because we get to share different opinions, stories, experiences, culture… and of course, food!

Thank you for sharing this with us, Syahrel! And wishing your mother a speedy recovery!
