Malaysians… anywhere we go, we never forget to bring along our culture, heritage, and most importantly, our flavours.

Whether it's the comforting aroma of nasi lemak or the colourful layers of kuih, food is one of the strongest ties we have to home. And let’s be honest—when the craving hits, we’ll find a way to make it, even if it means hunting down pandan leaves and sambal ingredients in a foreign country.
So, it’s no surprise that our food is slowly making its mark on global tables.
In Shanghai, a Malaysian chef is flying the flag high—literally at weddings. Chef Shah (@secretflavorshanghai), a Malaysian restaurant owner and chef based in China, recently shared a TikTok video that had Malaysians bursting with pride. In the video, he revealed that a Chinese couple had specially requested Malaysian food to be served at their wedding, hosted at their beautiful home.
“Even Chinese people who are getting married want to eat Malaysian food,” he captioned the video.
The wedding menu featured a variety of beloved Malaysian treats: kuihs like karipap, kuih lapis, and more, as well as the iconic nasi lemak with all the must-have side dishes. For drinks? Air sirap and teh tarik, of course—what’s a Malaysian meal without them, kan?
The sight of a full-blown Malaysian spread at a Chinese wedding had local netizens beaming. Many took to the comments to cheer Chef Shah on: “That’s great! Show off Malaysian food!”
“That’s amazing, sir. May you achieve success! Malaysia is becoming increasingly global.”
Here’s a huge shoutout to Chef Shah—not only for making mouths water, but for proudly sharing the rich flavours of Malaysia with the world, one wedding at a time.
