Lewis Hamilton is celebrated as one of the most iconic figures in Formula 1 history, renowned for his exceptional talent and numerous records.
The British driver made headlines in 2013 when he joined the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 team, a move that raised eyebrows at the time due to the team’s unremarkable performance. Fans were sceptical, and understandably so.
However, Hamilton’s decision proved to be a masterstroke. From 2014 to 2018, he and Mercedes dominated the sport, securing multiple World Drivers' Championship titles. With a total of seven championships—equal to the legendary Michael Schumacher—Hamilton has etched his name in the annals of motorsport history. His remarkable career includes records for the most wins (105), pole positions (104), and podium finishes (202), underscoring his unparalleled achievements in Formula 1.
In a surprising turn, Hamilton is set to join Scuderia Ferrari HP for the 2025 F1 season, marking the end of one of the most successful partnerships in the sport. While fans anticipate this new chapter, Hamilton’s impact continues to extend far beyond the racetrack.
Recently, a rare Lewis Hamilton trading card became the centre of attention when it sold for a staggering seven-figure sum. The card, produced by the American company Topps, features a taped-on autograph and was graded 8 by PSA, a professional card grading service. Despite the moderate grade, the card’s rarity and connection to Hamilton drove its value to over USD 1,000,000 (approximately RM4.43 million). Topps confirmed the record-breaking sale on Instagram, although the exact price was not disclosed.
This sale surpassed the previous record for a Topps collectible, which also featured Hamilton. In 2022, Canadian teenager Jean-Nicolas Gargon sold a Lewis Hamilton card for USD 900,000 (approximately RM3.99 million). What made this sale particularly remarkable was that the card was pulled from a box costing just USD50 (around RM221).
These extraordinary transactions highlight Hamilton’s immense popularity and the growing value of Formula 1 memorabilia. Whether on the track or through collectibles, Lewis Hamilton continues to captivate fans and set new benchmarks, cementing his legacy as a true icon of the sport.
