"It's 2024..." PwD Driver Calls Out Irresponsible Parking in Designated Spots in Penang

As 2024 draws to a close, it’s disheartening to see that some Malaysians still disregard the rules surrounding parking spots reserved for persons with disabilities (PwD).

A recent video shared by TikTok user @herry.30 highlighted this ongoing issue, showing how inconsiderate drivers continue to occupy these spaces without any valid reason, depriving those who genuinely need them.

In the video, Herry, who relies on these accessible parking spots, expressed his frustration. "I’m trying to park at this supermarket, but all the designated spaces for people like me are taken by two individuals," he said. He pointed out that neither of the vehicles belonged to a PwD driver, leaving him struggling to find appropriate parking.

The video quickly gained attention, with many netizens chiming in with their own thoughts. One suggested, “It’s best to report this to security and have them make an announcement asking the drivers to move.” Another noted, “Some PwD drivers don’t always display the necessary stickers, but most of these cars clearly don’t belong to PwDs.”

Parking spaces reserved for persons with disabilities are not just a convenience — they are a necessity. These spots are designed to provide closer access to entrances and wider spaces to accommodate mobility aids like wheelchairs. By occupying these spaces without needing them, we make life harder for those who already face daily challenges.

Let’s all be mindful and ensure that these spots remain available for those who truly need them. Don't be selfish — a little consideration can go a long way.
