Indian Influencer Sparks Debate After Asking Followers to Fund Her New iPhone: “Can You All Chip In?”

An Indian influencer has found herself at the centre of online debate after asking her followers to help fund her latest wish, the brand-new iPhone 17 Pro Max.

The influencer, identified as Mahi Singh, recently went viral when she posted a video requesting small donations of just 1 or 2 rupees (around RM0.04 to RM0.09) from her followers. Her goal was to collect enough money to buy the iPhone 17 Pro Max, which was launched earlier this month and costs roughly 149,000 rupees (about RM7,094).

In the video, Mahi explained that she had already received an iPhone 16 from her father three months ago, but she now wanted the latest model as a birthday gift for herself.

“The iPhone 17 Pro Max was just launched and I really love its colour. Three months ago, my father gave me the iPhone 16. I want this new one for my birthday on October 21. If everyone donates just 1 or 4 rupees, I can make my dream come true,” she said.

The clip has since drawn more than 38,000 views, but not everyone was impressed. Many users criticised her for being spoilt and entitled, accusing her of misusing her influence for unnecessary wants rather than meaningful causes.

While it’s unclear how much she managed to collect, her post has certainly sparked a larger discussion on social media responsibility and how far influencers should go when asking followers for support.
